Easy DIY Pom Pom Garland

If you are like me and love to decorate then finding cute and affordable ideas makes decorating even more fun and enjoyable! Store bought items are great but having homemade crafted ideas mixed in with your decor creates that special touch and thoughtfulness.
You will find out below just how easy it is to make! This pom pom garland is perfect for every season, birthday party, baby shower and more!

Step one is to determine your color scheme for your event. My rule of thumb is to chose three colors that complement each other. Fall was on my mind and so I chose these beautiful fall colors from Dollar Tree. The yarn thickness will depend on how fluffy you want your pom pom. I knew for this project, I wanted something a little less so this yarn worked out perfectly.

There are numerous ways to begin. A piece of cardboard, a pom pom maker or your hand. For me, I like to use my hand so this is the technique that I will show here.
Begin by laying the yarn across all four fingers, leaving a little hanging over at the bottom. Begin wrapping the yarn around your hand.

I like to count how many times that I wrap the yarn around so that my pom pom will come out approximately the same size. Shown here is fifty times.

Cut another piece of yard and lay flat. (You will need enough to tie the ends together) Next carefully remove the wrapped yard from your hand and lay on top as pictured above.

Take the flat piece of yarn and fold over the top of the wrapped yarn and tie a double knot. Make sure it is as tight as you can get it.

Begin cutting the loops on one side. I like to hold my fingers over the knot as I cut. Once all loops are cut on one side, trim all the pieces to the same length. Next begin working on the other side. Repeat the process.

Once both sides are complete, give one last trim.

I like the natural look of twine but thread can also be used for this step. This twine is very thin twin made for hang tags not the twine that is used for crafting. It goes through a needle easy and unlike the craft twine, this packaging twine does not have the thicker places or what I call lumps.

Final step is threading the pom pom. Find the center knot and enter the needle through. Make sure to hold the center as you pull the twine through the pom pom. This will give it stability and not pull any of the yarn through.
As a side note, wood beads can also be added between the pom poms.

Thats it! How cute did this come out? Again these are perfect for a mantel or laying on a food or gift table for that special event. Another idea is to choose Christmas colors and use on your tree! So many places to use these and the best part is they are so affordable!
Hope you enjoyed this and as always leave a comment and let me know your thoughts.
Blessings to you and yours!
