Scrap Wood Scare Crow

Do you have scrap wood laying around? So many adorable pieces can be made with scrap wood like this cute little scare crow. Just a few supplies:

Supply List:

• 1 piece of scrap wood
• Waverly chalk paint – color plaster
• Piece of cardboard
• 1-popsicle stick
• Apple Barrel Paint – color black
• Raffia
• Fabric of your choice
• Waverly chalk paint- pumpkin
• Hot glue
• Paper towel roll for tag

Paint the scrap piece with the color plaster. Then measure the top of the board to the cardboard. Cut the cardboard a little shorter than the scrap wood.

Paint the cardboard with the color black. You can also paint the sides of the cardboard as well.

Paint the popsicle stick the same color as the hat. I did a “worn” technique by dry brushing with little paint on the brush. This will leave parts of the stick unpainted.

Next paint the face on the scare crow. I chose to freehand this but you can use the pouncer sponges found at Walmart to make the eyes. For free handing make sure to start small. You can always make them bigger.

Once complete, begin on the nose. I began as a triangle and then broaden it out. This is all personal preference. You can also google some images of scare crow faces to see which ones you like.

Once the eyes and nose are complete, I used the pointed side of a barbecue skewer to make the dashes for the mouth and the dots in the eyes.

Cut fabric into strips. I used two different types. Lay the strips smallest to largest and place the scare crow onto the fabric. Tie and hot glue.

Shred the raffia and then cut into pieces. The length will depend on how long you want the hair to hang down. The pieces will also be used for under the scarf. Hot glue the hair and under the scarf into place.

Hot glue the popsicle stick onto the cardboard for the hat. I use a paper towel roll for the tag. Begin by cutting the roll in half (long way) and then cut a piece of the paper towel the size you want your tag. This is also personal preference. Stamp whatever saying that you want on your tag.
