Kids Craft Cane Fishing Pole

Looking for a sweet kids craft? This is it!
Strolling down the Dollar Tree craft section, I spied these adorable little fish. I knew right away what I wanted to do with them. Make a cane fishing pole!
A little perspective…My little grandson just went fishing for the first time and he absolutely loved it. When I asked him about his day and what he thought about touching a real fish, he stated that they were slippery and wet. I then proceeded to ask him what he thought about letting the fish go after he “cheesed” for the camera. He said he had to let him go so the fish could go back to his family. I said yes he did. (smiling as I am typing these words, remembering his sweet little caring face and how his little fish was missing his family).

Choosing the paint colors for the fish was pretty simple considering one had to be a clown fish, one a blue tang fish, one a goldfish and a random purple fish.

After applying two coats of paint to each fish, I moved them aside to let dry. Once dried a used a drill and small bit to drill holes in their mouth to feed the fishing line through the hole. Also drill a small hole in the top of one side of the bamboo “cane” pole.
Next I turned my focus on attaching the two bamboo cane poles together that I found at PopShelf. My first thought was a wood dowel but the ones I had on hand were to big. What is a crafter to do? Scour my craft drawers to see what I could use…

Small clothespin did the trick. I would suggest a wood dowel for better strength but I am all about giving you options. I removed the other half of the clothespin and used some E6000 and hot glue to connect the poles together.
The next step is threading all the fish on the fishing line. I staggered the fish to have a better look to them.

Look how sweet! I can only imagine the numerous ‘trips’ to the lake to fish and all the fish families being reunited. I hope you like this adorable kids craft and let me know if you try this. Thank you for passing it down the road- sharing-.
